ECAD MCAD collaboration challenges

In the past, there was no common PCB library management system which would greatly save time, reduce unnecessary iterations and make ECAD-MCAD design synchronization possible.

Excessive amount of meetings and time lost (due to poor integration of electrical and mechanical design) as well as other challenges in electromechanical design were common in everyday work.

MECODES comes in as a great tool to speed up electromechanical product development from the initial product idea to completion. It also makes it easy for ECAD and MCAD engineers to make last-minute design changes as well as any other changes due to incremental design updates between ECAD and MCAD systems.

ECAD MCAD integration with MECODES

MECODES (Mechatronic Collaboration Design Solution) “merges” the different worlds of MCAD and ECAD via EDMD protocol – IDX (incremental design updates between ECAD and MCAD).

Designed specifically for the collaboration of MCAD and ECAD systems, MECODES integrates mechanical, electrical and electronics design disciplines performed with market-leading systems. The collaboration relies on the open ProSTEP EDMD schema (ECAD design and MCAD design) for the incremental exchange of PCB layout changes which enables ECAD and MCAD designers to collaborate within their own environments with MECODES. It clearly shows how all electrical and mechanical components physically interact.

By combining the results from ECAD/MCAD in virtual environment, designers can assemble the electronic and mechanical parts, check whether they fit together and make necessary changes. The changes are implemented during the design process so errors can easily be detected, designs adjusted, and the results validated in minutes.
